2018 Luigi Pira Dolcetto d'Alba (Varunummer: 95645-01)

The 2018 Dolcetto d'Alba is a dark, muscular wine. Black cherry, graphite, spice, licorice and dried flowers are some of the many notes that give the 2018 its brooding, intense personality. This is an especially potent Dolcetto, but it has impeccable balance - not to mention tons of character. 89 points (Antonio Galloni, Vinous)

Dolcetto d'Alba DOC

The wine-making process of Dolcetto d'Alba takes place in horizontal fermentation tanks with temperature control for 6-7 days. The wine matures in stainless steel tanks for 8-9 months.
The color is ruby red with purple reflections. The nose is young, fresh, with fruity and floral notes. The taste is balanced and persistent, with acid, tannic and alcoholic components. The finish is long and complex.

2017 Luigi Pira Langhe Nebbiolo (Varunummer: 95853-01)

The 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo is another superb wine in this range. The Nebbiolo here is a large, ample wine built on real textural breadth. Crushed flowers, spice, sweet pipe tobacco and cedar give the 2017 lovely aromatic lift to play off its natural richness and muscle. Langhe Nebbiolo DOC

The wine-making process of Langhe Nebbiolo takes place in horizontal fermentation tanks with temperature control for 10-15 days. The wine matures over 12 moths, partly in small wooden barrels (barrique and tonneau barrels) and partly in large wooden barrels. Intense garnet red color. The nose is young, complex, with fruity and spicy notes and a light hint of leather. The taste is young, round, mouthfilling, with sweet, gentle and persistent tannins.

2015 Luigi Pira Barolo di Serralunga (Varunummer: 95642-01)

The 2015 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a gorgeous entry-level Barolo from Giampaolo Pira. Rich and dense, yet not at all overdone, the 2015 offers up a beguiling mix of Serralunga aromatics, fruit and structure. Orange peel, spice, dried flowers, mint and licorice all run through this rich, beautifully textured Barolo. The 2015 is truly a superb wine in its peer group. Barolo Serralunga DOCG

The wine-making process of Barolo Serralunga takes place in horizontal fermentation tanks with temperature control for 12-15 days. The wine ages in large 25-hl wooden barrels for 24 months. Garnet red color with orange reflections. The nose reveals a classic Barolo, fresh and elegant in its notes of leather, hay, earth and spices. On the palate it is round, well balanced between acidity and tannins, very persistent.

2015 Marengo Barolo Brunate (Varunummer: 95641-01)

The 2015 Barolo Brunate is decidedly not a shy wine. It opens to dark color saturation and varietal aromas that are dark and thick in character. That characteristic power and determination of the Brunate cru is played forward with perfect pitch. This wine shows compact and firm structure, like tight bricks layered one on top of the other, to form the density and richness that makes such a lasting impact on the palate. 95+ points (Wine Advocate)

The 2015 Barolo Brunate is another enticing wine in this range. Black cherry, spice, leather and licorice all flesh out in the glass. The breadth and textural resonance that are such signatures of Brunate emerge effortlessly. I would give the 2015 a few years in bottle to come together. Even in the early going, the 2015 exudes class. The Brunate is the darkest and most powerful wine in this range. 93 points (Antonio Galloni, Vinous)

Barolo Brunate La Morra DOCG

Vinification and ageing: Maceration with the skins for approx. 10 days depending on the vintage. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are natural: no yeast nor bacteria are added. The temperature in the cellar is raised in order to make the malolactic fermentation start. The wine matures for 24 months in French oak barriques (15% new) and it is bottled during the following summer.

2018 Keller Grüner Silvaner Trocken (Varunummer: 91340-01)

The 2018 Grüner Silvaner Trocken from Weingut Keller had been bottled only two weeks before my visit, but was showing beautifully. This is 11.5 percent octane this year and offers up a lovely and quite serious nose of tart orange, grapefruit, chalky minerality and a lovely, smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and beautifully balanced, with bright acids and lovely length and grip. Germany's most popular wine to pair with white asparagus is outstanding this year and a great bargain! 90 points (View from the Cellar)

2018 Keller Riesling Trocken (Varunummer: 90205-01)

I cannot recall ever having a better, basic Riesling Trocken from Klaus-Peter, and I am sure the ramping up of the average age of vines for each bottling is the reason for this! The bouquet is flat out stunning, soaring from the glass in a complex blend of pink grapefruit, blood orange, chalky soil tones, wild yeasts, dried flowers and a topnote of orange peel. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish and again, really deep at the core, with great acidity and grip, superb focus and a very long, very classy and beautifully complex finish. This is not all that far off the quality level of the GGs fifteen years ago! It is a stunning value. Drink it 2019-2050. 91 points (View from the Cellar)

2018 Keller Limestone Riesling Kabinett GOLDKAPSEL (Varunummer: 92994-01)

The 2018 Limestone Riesling Kabinett was produced from selected parcels in the Kirchspiel and Abtserde vineyards this year. The wine is just beautiful, delivering a marvelous bouquet of tangerine, pink grapefruit, chalky minerality, citrus zest, apple blossoms and an esthery topnote of bee pollen. On the palate the wine is pure, delicate and medium-full, with lovely filigree and grip, great focus and balance, electric acids and a very, very long, complex and dancing finish. A glorious Kabinett! Drink it 2023-2060. 93 points (View from the Cellar)
